- 4 cups peeled, chopped fresh apples
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Reserve 1½ cups for topping.
- Press the remaining mixture evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 10–12 minutes until golden.
- Toss together apples, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using) in another bowl.
- Spread the apple mixture over the baked crust and sprinkle with reserved crumb topping. Bake for an additional 30–35 minutes until golden on top.
- Allow to cool before slicing and serving.
