Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup butter, melted or room temperature to cut in
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a stand mixer, cream together butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until fluffy. Gradually add flour to form a dough, then press into the pan. Bake for 15 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine sliced apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- For the topping, mix remaining flour and brown sugar; cut in melted butter until crumbly.
- After removing the crust from the oven and increasing the temperature to 350°F (175°C), layer half of the topping on the crust followed by apples and then the rest of the topping.
- Bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown on top.
- Cool completely before slicing into squares.
