For the Cake

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water

2 cups fresh strawberries (hulled and chopped)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons water

For the Chocolate Ganache

8 oz semi-sweet chocolate (chopped)
1 cup heavy cream

For Garnishing

Fresh strawberries
Chocolate shavings or curls (optional)


Instructions

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.

Prepare the Cake Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add Wet Ingredients
Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.

Add Boiling Water
Slowly pour in the boiling water, mixing until the batter becomes smooth and slightly thin.

Bake the Cakes
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely.

Make the Strawberry Filling
In a saucepan, combine the chopped strawberries and sugar over medium heat. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water, then add it to the strawberries. Cook while stirring until the mixture thickens. Let it cool.

Prepare the Chocolate Ganache
Heat the heavy cream until hot but not boiling. Pour it over the chopped chocolate and let it sit for 2–3 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.

Assemble the Cake
Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread the strawberry filling evenly on top. Place the second cake layer over it.

Add the Ganache
Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, letting it drip down the sides.

Garnish and Serve
Decorate with fresh strawberries and chocolate shavings before slicing and serving.
