Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups crushed pretzels
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Extra crushed pretzels for texture

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Pound chicken breasts to an even thickness and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Set up three dredging stations: one with flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with Dijon mustard, and one with crushed pretzels mixed with garlic powder and smoked paprika.
  3. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip into the egg mixture, and coat thoroughly in the pretzel mixture.
  4. Place coated chicken on a lined baking sheet and brush lightly with olive oil. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown, flipping halfway through.
  5. For extra crispiness, sear in a skillet over medium heat for about 5–6 minutes per side until fully cooked.
  6. For the sauce, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat, whisk in flour, gradually add milk until thickened, then stir in mustards and cheddar cheese until melted.
  7. Serve hot topped with the cheddar mustard sauce.
