- 2 cups apples (cored, peeled, and chopped)
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 14 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into pieces)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt unsalted butter.
- Add chopped apples, light brown sugar, flour, ground cinnamon, water, and salt. Stir well and cook until apples soften (about 5–7 minutes). Set aside to cool.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Incorporate cut pieces of unsalted butter into the dry mix using a pastry cutter until crumbly.
- In a greased baking dish, press half of the oat mixture into the bottom. Spread cooled apple filling on top and cover with the remaining oat mixture.
- Bake for 50 minutes or until golden brown on top. Allow cooling completely before cutting.
