  • 3 eggs
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • Orange zest from 1 orange
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch for thickening
  • Salt
  • Oil for frying
  • Green onions for garnish
  • Additional orange zest for garnish


Instructions

  1. For the sauce: Combine orange juice, sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, garlic powder, and chili flakes in a pot. Heat for 3 minutes. Whisk cornstarch with water to form a paste; add to the sauce and simmer until thickened.
  2. For the chicken: Mix flour and cornstarch with salt in one dish and whisk eggs in another. Coat each chicken piece first in egg then in flour mixture.
  3. Fry: Heat oil to 350°F and fry chicken pieces until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.
  4. Combine: Toss fried chicken with orange sauce and garnish with green onions and orange zest before serving.
