  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1½ teaspoon paprika
  • 1½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1½ teaspoon salt
  • 1½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1½ teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried mustard
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • 4 cups vegetable oil (for frying)


Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken in a large bowl with buttermilk and seasonings for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  2. Prepare the coating by mixing flour and seasonings in a shallow dish.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 340°F using a candy thermometer.
  4. Dredge marinated chicken pieces in the flour mixture until fully coated.
  5. Fry chicken in batches for about 15 minutes per piece until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 170°F).
