  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

  • one 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • one 12-ounce can evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream (for topping)
  • 3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
  • cinnamon (optional for garnishing)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form; gradually add half the sugar.
  3. In another bowl, whisk egg yolks with remaining sugar, then mix in whole milk and vanilla.
  4. Gently fold in flour, baking powder, and salt into yolk mixture.
  5. Carefully fold in beaten egg whites until just combined.
  6. Pour batter into a greased cake pan and bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and heavy whipping cream in a bowl.
  8. Once baked, cool the cake slightly before poking holes in it and pouring the milk mixture over for soaking.
  9. Whip additional heavy cream with confectioners’ sugar; spread over cooled cake.
